Rare Fish

Mauritz van de Horst captured a rare fish on his camera on Sunday before last - this is what it looks like:

A bit closer now:

He described it:

"About 50cm long, weak swimmer, but did not appear to be too afraid of me."

It is apparently a Ribbonfish from the family Trachipteridae.

I have never seen one - thanks Mo that was worth viewing!

That big eye looks like its designed for the deep water.

Some time back I saw my first John Dory since I have been diving - 1991 till now - it was too spooky to let me get a pic.
